DHENKANAL: Two persons were killed and 40 others injured after a tourist bus fell off a bridge near Panchabati in Dhenkanal town on national highway-55 early on Monday morning.
"The bus was returning from Balangir after tour of Nrusinghanath temple. The accident took place after the driver apparently lost control over the vehicle," said police.
The bus first dashed into the railing of the bridge and then fell off the bridge to the canal.
The bridge was constructed over Rengali Right canal.
All the passengers belonging to Ichhapur area of Kendrapada district had visited Balangir and Sambalpur two days back and were returning to Ichhapur.
The injured were admitted in Dhenkanal district headquarter hospital. Two of the injured, including six women and three children, were shifted to SCB medical College in Cuttack.
"The condition of the injured is stable. Many will be discharged soon," said Bhubanananda Moharana, emergency officer of SCB medical College and Hospital.
The bridge was built over Rengali Right canal near Panchabati under Dhenkanal Sadar police station.
The deceased have been identified as RenubalaJena and Bijay laxmi Chandra Swain of Ichhapur village in Kendrapara district.
